Unveiled Was So Sweet!

We were part of the first-time ever in San Francisco Unveiled show produced by the gals at Plan A from Los Angeles. It was so much fun, lovely and featured Stanlee Gatti and a Vera Wang fashion show. Sponsored by San Francisco Brides and Martha Stewart Weddings, it was a well-attended event. Everyone had a great time!

It was a more intimate bridal "faire" than most, and the vendors were all pretty super-duper amazing, talented and creative. I had the pleasure of being next to Blu Bungalow and photographer Gustavo Fernandez who took a few shots of us and our booth.

Many thanks to Heather from Wish Social Events for doing the floral for our booth. I would NEVER be able to do anything with flowers, except put them in a vase. And they wouldn't look right no matter what I did... thank God for floral designers!

We had pianist Ben Stolorow play the baby grand at the venue (Terra) as people were milling about sampling the decadent chocolate from TCHO and other bites from the caterers. My favorite were the appetizers by The Other Woman and the cake from The Whole Cake. A-mazing! My favorite Fork & Spoon Productions were there too with their usual amazing yumminess!

We've been working with beautiful event planner/designer Lisa Feldman for the last year or so. You HAVE to check out her site and her work. It's fabulous!

She plans a lot of Bat/Bar Mitzvah's and for this one, hired our vintage Paparazzi to entertain as guests arrived. How fun is that?

They come donning vintage wear and camera gear. The're humorous and interactive. Having received information about the client and event, they "interview" people as they enter the event space.

We were very happy to send a Brazilian Dancer a la Carnival style, a Steel Band group, as well as a Santa Claus to the City Club in San Francisco's Summer Soiree! I know it sounds a bit all over the place, but they held a beautiful event to showcase their amazing venue decorated for different seasons.

Beautiful Una Bella Sera!

We were so excited to be part of Crystal Lequang and Nicole Ha's Una Bella Sera production.

Crystal is a beautiful event designer and planner, and Nicole's floral design is so lavish. Together they produced a magnificent event at the Craneway Pavilion in Richmond. For the second year in a row, we brought in the music – four unique artists that would be well-suited for any wedding celebration!

DJ Imani greeted people as they entered with his deft mixes of R&B, Motown, and other wedding-appropriate sounds.

In the wedding ceremony room, we had pianist Victoria Theodore (who tours with Stevie Wonder) playing for guests. This was my favorite room- clean, sleek, modern. Beautiful.

Our favorite vintage-clad chaps of the Laurent Fourgo Ensemble performed standard jazz tunes while people danced, mingled, and savored passed treats.

Super-dance band Busta Groove pulled out all of the stops at the end of the event with a powerful set of high-energy dance music!

What do Grace Ormonde and Entire Productions Have in Common?
A beautiful evening on Treasure Island!

Last Monday night, a warehouse in Treasure Island was completely transformed into a wonderland of design, artistry, whimsy for an event planners gathering. Philippe Lee of Jade Studio Productions opened up his wonderful studio space to welcome the queen of opulent weddings and industry journalism Grace Ormonde for her book signing "Being in Love Never Goes Out of Style".

As guests entered, they were offered a glass made of ice filled with champagne! Our wonderful Parisian jazz crooner Laurent Fourgo performed in their vintage suits as the space filled with Bay Area event designers, wedding planners, florists, photogs and other professionals to celebrate Grace's visit on her book tour. And arrive she did: in a Ferrari right into the middle of the party!

Upstairs in what I refer to as the "Garden of Eden" room, we had handsome and very skilled Latin Guitarist Q Morrow play as people discovered the continued hidden spaces of this gem of a venue.

In the Asian inspired red room with paper lanterns and candlelit tables, our Tarot card reader gave insightful readings to a long list of people.

Grace lived up to her name, just the most graceful and warm person, even with 500 people waiting in line to meet her!

Our Body Painting Experience [for our Holiday Card]

What I love about working at Entire Productions is that nothing here is impossible. You want risqué holiday cards, an image of topless women with only our backs painted? You got it!

Scene: A weekday afternoon in line for coffee at Starbucks. We are surrounded by quiet, focused men and women in boardroom attire while we compete with the group of men behind us to see who can laugh the loudest in a public space. Jacqueline, Natasha and I are talking about branding and how important it is to make an impression.

Jacqueline throws out the idea of Sandra Leathley painting instruments on our bodies and Natasha suggests we do it for Christmas, that our being topless would really make an impression. I call dibs on the violin and suggest that Jacqueline get a saxophone painted on her arm. None of it’s serious talk, we’re just wasting time in the line for coffee. Then Natasha says, “I think this is a great idea. Let's do it.”

Upon contacting Sandra, the idea quickly changed from painting instruments (too cumbersome) to rendering the San Francisco skyline on our backsides, iconic symbols such as the Golden Gate Bridge, a cable car, Coit Tower, and the Transamerica Pyramid. Sandra's one of those people who does many things well: she has all sorts of characters ready to go and is herself a highly-skilled photographer, costume maker, and face and body painter extraordinaire.

Sandra starts with Natasha.

We then found photographer, Philippe Lee, an artistic-adventurous type with a studio on Treasure Island. It is beautiful, a huge warehouse with many different rooms, each decorated in a different style: One with saturated, bright red walls and a nook full of Turkish cushions; another with a 60s Style refrigerator and walls covered in corrugated tin. The room where we got painted was near the top of the warehouse, just below a huge decorated plastic tree with a swing set hanging from its branches.

The painting took several hours--mine was the shortest time, Jacqueline’s the longest. I spent a good amount of it in black leggings with a drape over my chest eating sandwiches and talking shop, waving my one blue hand around and getting comfortable with the sight of my similarly clad coworkers.

The actual photography session was great. Philippe kept it short and managed to get some gorgeous shots. The whole time, we were all laughing and joking, and trying to get our positions right. Afterward, I felt like I’d been through something funny and yet significant with my colleagues, like a pie-fight and a wedding put together.

I had the pleasure of touring the newly renovated Sir Francis Drake Hotel with Eva Noskova who is the corporate sales manager. She is lovely, enthusiastic and great to work with!

The rooms all have the Kimpton Hotel flair, fun colors and modern touches. They've reclaimed and recycled elements as well so they're doing their part to be green! Some of the rooms overlook Union Square and I had visions of staying there at Christmas time and seeing all of the lights at night! Maybe I'll book a room for a stay-cation! They have a brand-new fitness room and Starbucks is the cafe in their building. I wouldn't have to leave!

Seghesio Family Vineyard (Wine As It Was Meant To be Enjoyed)

There is service and then there is service with style. Met by someone with good humor, forthrightness, a depth of knowledge and genuine desire to delight, I don’t forget.

And so, our recent Sunday afternoon visit to Seghesio Family Vineyards in Healdsburg, Sonoma County, was unforgettable!

I traveled from San Francisco with an unexpected mix of new friends and old, to sit at the Family Tables and enjoy wine as it was intended … “around a table with food and friends.” (A very affordable and yet extravagant experience, by the way.)

The small private dining rooms hosting up to 16 people are full of Seghesio history memorabilia and artifacts that came alive via our passionate and knowledgeable hostess, Mary.

Mary also shared impressive tidbits about the delicious food prepared by Chef Jon Helquist (formerly of Chez Panisse, Oliveto, the Martini House and Manzanita), and of course the illustrious life of the limited edition wines we tasted.

Seghesio Family Vineyards is Bonded Winery number 850, making it among the oldest in the U.S. (There are now 6,000 wineries in California alone.) Bonded in 1902, the vineyards reap 80,000 cases of wine per year, a full 68,000 of them their Blue Label Sonoma County Zinfandel. Given the reach and popularity of these old vine wines, the remaining efforts go into producing 12 limited edition specialty varietals.

If you go—and I highly suggest that you do go—ask for Mary or for Dana. Dana was my introduction to the Vineyards a few weeks prior and handles all events. Like Mary, Dana takes an admirable and infectious pride in her work with the Seghesio Family and thus makes you feel right at home.

Casa Bella Blanca Soiree!

What a wonderful evening!

"Unveiling of a Gem: Casa Bella Blanca" was produced by Entire Productions & Barbara Llewellyn Catering & Event Planning with Blueprint Studios. As guests arrived, they were greeted by the valet in crisp white jackets, then entered the beautiful new event space at 1045 Divisadero. Upon entering they were offered a lovely white Sangria by Barbara Llewellyn Catering and greeted by the hosts.

Jacqueline Stolte of Entire Productions had the following to say about Barbara Llewellyn's catering staff,

"They were very impressive: always cheerful -- as if they were having a good time, in the most professional way -- and very graceful in their ability to move through the crowd. This to me is what makes a party great. It pulls together food, ambiance/environment, entertainment and guests!"

I could not have expressed it better.

In the living room Flamenco Guitarist Jean Paul Buongiorno serenaded the guests folled by DJ Juan Data who spun latin music through the night.

Walking through the beautifully staged rooms by Blueprint Studios on the bottom floor, you were beckoned outdoors by the crisp air, sounds of up-tempo Latin music by DJ Imani and the delicious passed delicacies by Barbara Llewellyn.

Fito Reinoso took to the stage with his Cuban band and the dance floor erupted in a salsa frenzy. OK, not really a frenzy but event planner Crystal Lequang showed us her ballroom salsa moves, and Entire Productions' own Natasha Miller got into the spirit for a few songs. Later in the evening... everyone was out on the dance floor!

Wedding Ceremonies/Receptions: Live Music?

I was asked to participate in a book being written by harpist Anne Roos that will be called “The Bride’s Guide to Musicians: Live Wedding Music Made Easy and Affordable”. It will be published by Hal Leonard sometime next year.

Below is the Q & A. I'm sure it will all be edited down, but it's good information in and of itself.

1. How AND why do you encourage brides to include live music for their wedding festivities? What do you feel are the benefits of a live music performance at a wedding, versus using a DJ, a stereo or iPod, or no music at all?

"I always encourage brides to have live music for their wedding ceremony, certainly. There is nothing that compares to the sound of real instruments being played at such an incredibly intimate and “once-in-a-lifetime” event. The sound of recorded music is sterile during a ceremony, and you never know if the person “pushing the button” will have the volume at the right level, or the correct song cued up."

"As for the cocktail hour and wedding reception, I always encourage them to find the absolute right ensemble for them. This is not always the typical wedding dance band, but something that is truly meaningful and relevant to them, and their guests. The musicians are interactive and lend an energy to the event that cannot be replicated by recorded music. If the bride want the original song performed, then they can use an iPod or hire a DJ for those specific times, as well as to play during breaks."

2. How do you find musicians to recommend to brides?

"I have an entertainment and talent booking agency that was born because I was getting called so much to perform as a violinist and jazz vocalist. I have over 500 musicians in my database, and I hand select the right musicians for each event and client."

3. If a bride wants live music, but she’s on a tight budget, what kinds of suggestions do you offer her so that she can still include live music at her wedding?

"I always suggest a soloist if nothing else over recorded music. A violinist, flutist, harpist, or even a cellist, guitarist, saxophonist can play the melody of any song ever written beautifully!"

4. What do you think a bride should look for in choosing a great musician, band, or ensemble?

"Look for their history, past performances for wedding ceremonies specifically because they are much different than playing through a straight hour of background music. Then check their website out and listen to their samples. Speak to the leader and get a sense for their professionalism and interest in your event, and talk with them about repertoire. If anything feels wrong, then move on to the next group. Referrals are always the best!"

5. What do you feel a bride should ask musicians before she decides to book them?

"What time they plan on arriving, what their set-up time will be, and if they’ll send a contract. This will set the tone for the event and make sure everyone has the correct timing in agreement. Everything should be agreed upon before a contract is signed, and a deposit paid, as they are usually non-refundable."

6. What suggestions do you offer to a bride if she cannot find the specific instrumentation that she is looking for?

"Instrumentation is important in a lot of cases, but if the instrument can be replaced with another like-sounding instrument or an instrument in a similar range, they should be encouraged to consider that. For instance, a violin and a flute play in the same range, and have a similar ability for execution of a piece."

7. What suggestions do you offer to brides about how to communicate with musicians so that everything goes smoothly on her big day?

"A bride should have every detail planned out with the leader of the group including the following:

Exact Physical address and directions to the venue
The name or location within the venue where they are to perform
Load in time, location and instructions
What kind of furniture, amplification and protection from the elements are needed?
How many attendants are processing before the bride including ring bearer and flower girl?
Exact repertoire for the ceremony (and suggestions and guidelines for the prelude music)
How long after the recessional piece do they want the group to perform for as people are leaving the ceremony site?

This will insure that everyone knows what’s expected of them."

Fire & Icing = AMAZINGLY beautiful and DECADENTLY delicious CAKE!

I'm not joking. I was salivating upon seeing this beautiful cake arrive at an event-planning networking event at the Hotel Monaco's Grand cafe. I thought, "Certainly we wouldn't be able to taste it." But I asked, and I received! Of course, the chef that created it wanted all to know... it's the BEST TASTING WEDDING CAKE ever. Period. (as far as my experience goes).

From Pastry Chef Dante/Creator:

"It is a Citrus Nut Cake, made with almond and hazelnut flour (the flour consists of well-grounded hazelnuts and almonds that have first been roasted, then ground to a fine meal). It is a 5-part cake, meaning it is made up of adding 5 different parts in 5 different stages: meringue, an egg yolk mixture, the flour mixture, frangipan, and heavy cream. The cake contains finely grated zest from the best oranges available, and a hint of rose water.

The result is a cake that is dense, but incredibly rich and moist because of the oil in the nuts. Very similar to morning bread. It has a strong taste of nuts and citrus, which are a wonderful combination.

The sugar chalice cake topper was hand-molded out of pastillage and decorated with royal icing, then hand-painted in edible gold and luster dust colors."

I thought the icing might taste chewy/chalky... but it was AMAZING!!! Smooth, sweet and I want more!

Run... do not walk to order your next cake from him! I'm getting one for my daughter's birthday in July! Harry Potter cake anyone?

I'm not even going to mention the word "e_ _ nomy" because I'd have to scream!

Recently it's become the buzz word that is over-used and could quite possibly be undermining our success. It has a negative implication, no one uses that word in a positive light these days. How are we to progress toward greatness if we're all talking with language of fear and failure?

Change your language, change your thinking, change your outcome. It's a little "The Secret", I know. Just think about it though.

What would happen if we all had permission to succeed instead of cower in the terror of our doom?

I encourage everyone to embrace what we all have, be it simple joys or lavish existence and share it with each other.

but not like Adam and Natasha! Come for sonic surprises and a hip/edgy approach to these vintage gems!

Natasha is most known for her work with the songwriter Bobby Sharp who wrote

Una Bella Sera!

OK, I just had the most mind-blowing experience at the incredible Una Bella Sera created by Crystal Lequang of Amazae Special Events and Nicole Ha. They out-did themselves creating a wonderland of event design, floral design with the help of many wonderful vendors. Including us!!!

We brought in Maze Daiko Taiko to announce the opening of the event at the Julia Morgan Ballroom

We then had the Synchronicity Strings perform in the "Europe" showcase which was doused in beautiful roses and catered by Thomas John Events.

Then in the "America's" space, super band Sonic Strut had everyone on the dance floor!

The evening was capped off by the smokin' Latin Funk Project band led by Patricio Angulo. There was a lot of hot salsa dancing taking place!

I had most of the Entire Productions team there including Tyler Merrill, Everett Herbert, Jacqueline Stolte, Erik Lannon. My daughter Bennett and brother Jeremy made a special appearance as well!

Great New Event Sites!!! (That you Might Not Even Know About Yet)

I have come into a few really incredible new locations that I'd love to share with everyone in the industry! I can't believe the gems that are springing up!

1034 Divisidero Street San Francisco
The first is a glorious Victorian home in San Francisco that is impeccably decorated in a warm modern design. It is owned by real estate professionals (really great guys) and is available for events as well as a vacation home. I attended a wine tasting there and it was drop-dead gorgeous. You'll be dialing their number before you even get to their fabulous patio/jacuzzi photos!

The next is The Thomas Estate in Pleasanton (near Alamo/Blackhawk). I went on a site tour with fabulous Barbara Llewellyn and was in heaven! The setting is gorgeous, you feel like you're in the middle of the wine country! It's sprawling country and even features its own chapel. No kidding! Stained glass windows and all. Plus a pool, and parking for 150!

Barbara did a beautiful event there and had part of the yard tented with a beautiful Zephyr Tent. There's a slide show on their homepage.

And last, but certainly not least is the Craneway Pavilion. It's set on the waterfront in Richmond and although I haven't visited YET, the photos make me want to throw a party there now! Maybe I should start planning one???

I met the owners/developers and managers of this site and they are in love with it! Who wouldn't be? I plan on sailing over there from the Berkeley Marina/OCSC some day. How romantic...

We have had an incredible couple of weeks, thanks to my new director of sales & marketing Jacqueline Stolte! This woman is a mover AND a shaker!

We have met with so many wonderfully talented and kind people. Anna Williams of McCall's is delightful and welcomed us to their offices in Potrero hill. Later that day we sat down for a lovely lunch at Kuletto's with Cody Hoyer of Larkspur Hotels, and Rafael Galliano of At Home in SF. You should see Rafael's totally hip shades... we all took turns wearing them!

On Friday we stopped by the swanky new offices of PRA and chatted with Heather, Lindsay, and Stephanie. These girls have it goin' on!

Then, Laura Fraenza came by our office on California St. to tell us all about her new business. She has the sleek, modern Bose tower PA systems that will class up any event. No more bulky speakers on tri-pod stands!

Jacqueline met with Nadia Chan of the SF Chamber of Commerce of which we're proud members. We hope to be working with them on music for their upcoming events!

Jacqueline made the trek to Walnut Creek to visit with Bob Gonas and staff of Image Three Events. These guys have an incredible history in the event production world. Intriguing!

Tyler attended the MPI conference and made a lot of new friends and invaluable contacts. That was THE place to be... and I missed it!

Jacqueline and I braved the downpour of rain to meet with the INCREDIBLY creative and energetic producers from InVision in Walnut Creek. We received a "sitting" ovation with thundering applause. My friend Amy Tolbert made us feel very welcome, and Rod Mickels (partner) gave us the grand tour. Check out their new website!

We had a nice chat with Carla of Wolfgang Puck Catering and ISES fame. We look forward to seeing her at future ISES events.

THEN... we headed over to check out the Roe Restaurant which has 3 floors of hip/modern/edgy event space. Danny Phelen welcomed us, and I taught him how to tie the "never will come untied double knot" on his kicks.

Later that evening I was a guest at a Barbara Llewellyn tasting at her catering kitchen in Oakland. It was wonderful, of course. I had the honor of meeting some really great people, and learning about the new event space in Richmond called the CranewayPavilion. I can't wait to get some music going in there! It's a beautiful spot!

On Monday, Jacqueline took me to see her old college roommate who just happens to run Trademark Events (think Lucas Film, Google, ILM). Elle is a pistol, and a creative visionary!

Later that afternoon we cozied up in the Hotel Vitale lobby with event planner extraordinaire Duncan Reyes. Now, that was fun! He is so funny, and great person to spend time with. Never a dull moment or lack of conversation with this guy! He has proclaimed us a "preferred vendor" which we humbly/gleefully accepted.

The next day I drove over the Park Street bridge from Alameda to Jingletown where I was taken on a tour of Event Magic's HUGE warehouse of props, linens (they make them on site) and sound/lighting studio. They have everything you can think of... old video games, the Eiffel Tower, custom painted backdrops...

Later that day Amy from WJAgency paid us a visit. This full-service PR/Marketing/Events company is based in LA and Los Vegas, but has a satellite office here in San Francisco. It was Amy's birthday (we didn't ask how old she was) and she was off to celebrate by continuing a 30 day Yoga commitment. Go, Amy go!

We attended a new networking group at the City Club on Wed morning. I'm thinking about becoming a member of this historic social club. It's quite lovely, and just 2 blocks from our office.

And finally, we ended up at the Hotel Rex to kick it for a while with Greek Event Goddess Constance of Organized Chaos. She was fantastic, so much fun and WAY more energy that I could ever conjure up. She's been in the business for, well... many years. And knows everything and everyone! It was so much fun, and I can't wait to see her again. Thankfully, her car wasn't towed from the loading zone:)

That just about covers the last couple weeks. Needless to say I'm invigorated and exhausted by all of the energetic and creative people we've met. I need a solid 8 hours of sleep just to keep up!

Miller explains that the evolution and expansion of Entire Production been in the works for a while. In addition to opening a new office in the heart of San Francisco's financial district, she has hired four new team members to bolster the company's ability to select, book and produce talent for event planners throughout the San Francisco Bay Area.

As the new Director of Sales and Marketing, Aaryn Herridge brings a unique blend of client relations and business development expertise to the team thanks to her years of experience producing partnerships for online content producers and implementing marketing initiatives for financial education companies.

Drew Pearce, the new Creative Director, is a music journalist, marketing writer, publicist, and event promoter whose clients have included Acoustic Guitar magazine, Haggin Marketing, Macy's and About Records. In 2001, he founded Bay Area House Concerts, a series of acoustic music events he produced and hosted in private homes throughout the Bay Area.

Production Manager Erik Lannon has produced live music and events, worked as a senior stage technician with Bill Graham Presents, and toured the world as a drummer in a number of bands, including the Bay City Rollers. He's a 2008 Jefferson Award nominee for his work with the Lincoln Child Center, an organization that enables vulnerable and emotionally troubled children and their families to lead independent and fulfilling lives.

Before joining the Entire Productions team as an Event Planner, Tyler McHugh-Merrill worked as Sales Representative for the San Francisco Giants and Luxury Suite Concierge Representative for the Oakland Raiders. At the University of Miami, she studied sports administration and business and received a full athletic scholarship as a member of the varsity rowing team.

On January 22, the company will be launching a new web site that makes it even easier for their clients to review a wide-ranging roster of acts.
